Thomas Jefferson letter and calculations to Charles Clay [manuscript], 1811 August 23.

In a letter, 1811 August 23, Jefferson, Poplar Forest, writes to Charles Clay re: his being "much confined to the house" by rheumatism, his attempt to amuse himself by "calculating the hour line of a horizontal dial for the latitude of this place," and sending instructions so that "Master Cyrus" might make Clay a dial by them. The letter is accompanied by a table of his calculations.
